Excel to CSV converts the sheets of an .xlsx workbook into CSV files that other programs can import: CRMs, email marketing services, online shops, accounting software, databases and data tools. Excel can save as CSV itself, but only one sheet at a time, often in an old encoding that turns ć, ü or Cyrillic text into question marks, and with dates and numbers written the way they are displayed on your computer, such as 15.3.2024 or 1.234,50, which another system may read differently or not at all. This tool reads the workbook directly and lists every sheet with its row count, so you can choose which ones to export; hidden and empty sheets are unticked by default. Each selected sheet becomes its own CSV file, and several sheets or several workbooks are downloaded together as a ZIP. Dates and times are written in the international format 2024-03-15 and 14:30:00, which every database and import tool understands, and numbers are written as stored, without currency signs or thousand separators. Text is saved as UTF-8 with a signature so Excel and other programs show accented letters correctly, and you can switch the signature off for strict tools. The separator can be comma, semicolon for European Excel versions, or tab. Empty rows inside the data are kept so row positions match the original, and cells with commas, quotes or line breaks are quoted correctly. Everything happens in your browser, so financial and personal data never leaves your computer. For the opposite direction use CSV to Excel Converter, and to stack the resulting CSV files into one table use Merge CSV Files.
Most systems that import data ask for CSV, not Excel, because CSV is plain text that any program can read without a licence. The catch is that a CSV has to be written in a form the receiving program expects, and Excel's own Save As often gets that wrong for anyone outside the United States. Three settings matter. The encoding should be UTF-8, the only encoding that covers every language; older options store text in a regional code page, which is why names arrive in the CRM with question marks. The separator should match the importer, which is a comma in almost every web service and database. The date format should be unambiguous, because 03/04/2024 means 4 March in the US and 3 April in Europe; ISO dates like 2024-04-03 remove the doubt. This converter uses those defaults. It also leaves the values themselves alone: a formula is exported as its last calculated result, a number formatted as currency is exported as the plain amount, and a percentage is exported as its stored fraction, so 25% becomes 0.25. If you need a value exactly as displayed, format that column as text in Excel before converting. When a workbook has several sheets with the same columns, for example one per month, convert them all and then combine the CSV files into one table with Merge CSV Files. If the sheet is a contact list, CSV to vCard Converter can turn it into a .vcf for phones without going through CSV at all.
