VCF to Excel Converter

About VCF to Excel Converter

VCF to Excel turns a vCard contact file into an .xlsx workbook that opens directly in Microsoft Excel, with one contact per row and one detail per column. Excel cannot open a .vcf file in a usable way: double clicking it either starts Outlook or shows the raw vCard text in a single column. Converting through CSV is not much better, because Excel reformats phone numbers when it opens a CSV, removing the plus sign of international numbers and the leading zero of local ones. This tool writes a real Excel workbook in which every value is stored as text, so +44 20 7946 0000 and 0641234567 appear exactly as they were saved on the phone. The header row is bold and frozen, and columns are sized to their content, so the list is ready to sort, filter and print. Mobile, home, work and other numbers each get their own column, as do personal and work email addresses, and contacts with several numbers of the same type get extra columns such as Mobile Phone 2. Files from iPhone, iCloud, Android, Google Contacts and Outlook are all supported, and several files can be combined into one sheet with duplicates removed. Nothing is uploaded. After editing the workbook, CSV to vCard Converter can turn it back into contacts for a phone.

People convert contacts to a spreadsheet for many reasons. Small businesses move a phone full of customer numbers into a CRM. Associations and clubs turn the chairman's phone into a member list. Families merge the address books of an old and a new phone and want to see who is missing. Marketing teams prepare a newsletter import from contacts collected at an event. In each case the same few details decide whether the result is usable. The first is phone number format. A CSV has no types, so Excel decides on its own that +381 64 123 4567 is a number and 0641234567 is the number 641234567. Saving as .xlsx avoids that, because the workbook marks every cell as text. If you must use CSV with Excel, import it through Data, From Text/CSV and set the phone columns to Text. The second is encoding. The CSV files created here are UTF-8 with a signature at the start, which tells Excel to show letters like ć, ü or Cyrillic correctly; without it Excel on Windows often shows garbled characters. Use the semicolon separator if your Excel is set to a European language, since it uses the comma as a decimal mark. The third is duplicates: when the same person is saved on two phones, both copies are identical and the duplicate option keeps one. Contacts that differ slightly, for example with an extra email, are kept, so nothing is lost. Once the list is cleaned up in a spreadsheet, CSV to vCard Converter turns it back into a .vcf for any phone, and Excel to CSV Converter or CSV to Excel Converter switch between the two spreadsheet formats.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert VCF to Excel?
Drop the .vcf file here, keep the Spreadsheet layout and the Excel (.xlsx) option, and click Download Excel. Open the downloaded file in Excel: each contact is a row and each phone number, email and address field has its own column.
Why not just open the VCF in Excel?
Excel does not understand the vCard format. It shows the raw lines of the file in one column, one property per row, instead of one contact per row. The file has to be converted into a table first, which is what this tool does.
Will Excel change my phone numbers?
Not with this file. Every cell in the workbook is stored as text, so Excel does not treat phone numbers as numbers. The plus sign, spaces and leading zeros stay exactly as they were on the phone.
Can I convert several VCF files into one Excel sheet?
Yes. Drop all the files at once. Contacts from every file are combined into one sheet, and exact duplicates, such as the same contact saved on two phones, are removed. You can also download a separate workbook for each file.
Does it work with Excel on Mac and Google Sheets?
Yes. The .xlsx format opens in Excel for Windows and Mac, in Numbers, in LibreOffice Calc and in Google Sheets after uploading it to Google Drive.
