About 24x24 Tile Calculator
A 24 by 24 inch tile covers 4 square feet, so the raw tile count is a quarter of the floor area. A 12 by 10 foot room of 120 square feet needs 30 tiles before waste and 33 with a 10 percent allowance. This page opens in feet and inches with the size already set, so you only enter the room. Large square tiles give a floor with few grout lines, but they need a flatter floor than small tiles. The usual standard for tiles with any edge of 15 inches or more is no more than an eighth of an inch of variation over 10 feet, against a quarter inch for smaller tiles, so check the floor with a long straightedge before you start and level the low spots. Large tiles also make cuts more visible in small rooms: a 24 inch grid in a narrow bathroom can leave thin slivers along the walls, so plan the layout from the centre and adjust it until the edge pieces are at least half a tile. Boxes usually hold 3 or 4 tiles, 12 to 16 square feet. Allow 10 percent waste, more for an irregular room. For a rectangular plank format see 12x24 Tile Calculator: How Many Tiles & Boxes per Sq Ft, or in metric see 60x60 Tile Calculator: Tiles per m², Boxes & Waste (cm).

Frequently Asked Questions
How many 24x24 tiles per square foot?
A quarter of a tile, since each covers 4 square feet. Divide your area by 4 for the raw count, then add the waste allowance.
How many 24x24 tiles for a 12x12 room?
A 12 by 12 room is 144 square feet, so 36 tiles before waste and 40 with a 10 percent allowance.
How many 24x24 tiles are in a box?
Usually 3 or 4, covering 12 or 16 square feet. Enter the number from the box in the tiles per box field to get the box count.
How flat does a floor need to be for 24x24 tiles?
The common standard for tiles with an edge of 15 inches or more is no more than 1/8 inch of variation in 10 feet. Smaller tiles tolerate about twice that, which is why large tiles often need levelling compound first.
Is 24x24 the same as 60x60 cm?
Nearly. A 60x60 cm tile is about 23.6 inches square, so it covers slightly less. Use the tile size printed on the box, and switch the units to metric for a 60x60 tile.
